miu miu marionette

When it was announced that Lindsay Lohan would be fronting the new Miu Miu ads, I wasn't expecting much. However, the first campaign image was just released and I'm impressed. Rather than drawing on her celebrity, the photographers created an entire character around Lohan; this doll-like creature is not instantly recognizable as the actress and could be almost anyone. I particularly love the carefully posed angles... from her flexed, Miuccialy shod feet, to the triangle created by her tightly cinched waist. I'm not sure if the firecrotch reference was necessary, but it does go well with the red hair.

update: rest of the campaign...

I think this exquisitely photoshopped creature is better viewed from afar, as in the first image. I love the pink peter pan collar, particularly against the midnight blue silk, but I'm not crazy about the handbags this year.

And on to the third...

Is this Miu Miu or porn? Hair and makeup is stunning, but the outfit is wholly non-descript and an upskirt cheerleader shot is tacky and unneccessary. Miuccia, what is happening?!

I have faith in next season.

Is that Lindsay? She did a great job!

Wow, I had to do a double-take to see if that was Linsday. I didn't know how this campaign was going to turn out - I personally don't class Lohan as a fashionable figure - but I see that it is quite successful. I love the enlarged shadows behind her.

It's okay, but I'm still dissapointed with Miuccia. The combination of Miss Lohan and the turbans has been a horrible lapse in her judgement; I really hope her upcoming collection is MUCH better.

very suprised- and your title is so perfect "marionette" indeed! i didn't even pick up that firecrotch reference (i spluttered up my water)

She actually looks great. Maybe because she doesn't look a lot like her... kudos to the photographer and stylist. They did a hard job!

Why doesn't this look like Lohan at all? (I'm not complaining!) I was so confused at first; when I heard "Lindsay", I thought it was Lindsay Ellingson, the model, as the campaign girl. That face does not even resemble the girl Brandon Davis was referring to!

Wow, it doesn't even look like her. Which I actually consider a good thing.

I almost love it. I don't know, there seems to be something missing. I saw it and said wow, then I looked closer and felt as if it wasn't quit finished. it almost seems like a picture taken during the shoot.

I think you're right, it could be almost anyone!

*** Diatribe alert *** Celebrity and fashion, like hand and glove or sheath and anorexically emaciated young body. They just fit together, no doubt about it. Why then do piquant feelings rise up in me when I see celebrities plastered all over in fashion ads? Perhaps because it reminds me of celebrity, an odious concept that people who are neither the most beautiful nor the most talented (indeed perhaps the least talented), but just empty vessels who happened to be in the right place at the right time, are somehow worthy of our attention. Is Prada no better than Coke with Paula Abdul or Pepsi with B.S.? Cannot we not leave fashion to artisans, and sometime artists, and the modeling to professionals? Professionals who won’t aspire to become bad actresses and who will go about their business with discreet glamour? Having said that, if I could vomit myself to fame and fortune, perhaps I would do it… BB

I don’t understand the catty almost vicious comments about Lindsay Lohan. Is that just a petty female thing? I think she should be appreciated for the nice looking woman that she is.
