from the mouths of males

I've had a love/hate relationship with these Balenciaga booties since they first came down the runway... At first I thought "hideous generalus!", but they grew on me after a few months, and now I'm at the point where I sketch little Balenciaga hooves next to my notes in class, and dream of what trips to the grocery store would be like if I had 5 inches of solid Ghesquière beneath me... The fact that these boots would cost more than one month's rent in Paris (and are therefore ludicrously unattainable) only fuels the fantasy fire, so it is at times like this when a man's brutal honesty can be refreshing:

"Let me be completely honest here, those shoes, when not placed on a woman’s foot, are structurally and aesthetically sexy (maybe it’s the S&M and not the H&M in me). But when said shoe is placed on an actual foot, that woman begins to resemble a goat. A female goat, yes, but a goat none-the-less"

Wrong perhaps, but refreshing.

See, a random fact that I didn't include in the "sixes" post is that we used to have a goat farm. I loved our goats very much but don't want to look like one. I don't really want to look like Mary-Kate Olsen either (this would actually be impossible so I'm more worried about the goat bit) however these boots have me in high smit, and I am interested in your verdict...

The Balenciaga bootie...
Goatlike?
Gorgeous?
Undecided.

Hahaha! You know... never thought that they look goat-like, but now that you bring the subject, yes they look!

I think that i like that style of boot when taken in context of how it appeared in the collection. The black opaque tights paired with them looked great. I think 1) if you are tall, 2) if you weigh more than an olsen and 3) dress better than a certain olsen the boots could be compleetly pulled off. Either a really bold dress, or long coat in say canary yellow. Or wide leg trowsers hemmed to show off just enough of the boot.

I have seen them on Real Live People, but I haven't seen anyone walk properly in them. When not required for walking but rather posing, they can look very good.

About the only intersection of Mary-Kate and Ashley's tastes is Balenciaga. Back in 2002 they seemed to carry solely bags from that house.

I've been feeling the exact same. I ask myself "how could I ever like such a bizarre, equus-like, maybe even hideous-looking thing?" Alas, but I do like them. I do believe it's just a phase though, and like any phase we can just be patient and let it pass.. soon enough we will be fancying something else!

PS. fantastic blog. Cheers.

I don't care what men think, I love these boots. I'm a sucker for dramatic structure in shoes.

I don't think they're necessarily goat-like. They just look uncomfortable to me, which is very unattractive.

The boots are a little clunky, but the ankle hieght is nice. I just love the leg-lengthening effect of opaque tights though. You seem to be a huge fan of tights as well.

I love them purely because they're show stoppers. They get a response. They're art.
