galaxy gap

In the midst of the countdown for Viktor & Rolf's H&M collection, Roland Mouret has released a first glimpse of his capsule collection for GAP.... and sadly there isn't a Galaxy or Titanium Dress in sight.

I was literally jumping for joy earlier this year at the news that my gown god Roland Mouret would be collaborating with Khaki Headquarters (GAP) to design 10 dresses for femmes on a budget. I didn't exactly imagine that I would find one of his exquisite $1K hourglass dresses on a hanger at GAP with a $100 price tag, but I had hoped that these collaborative creations would echo the expert 1940s style tailoring that has become RM's trademark. But alas it seems the fall trend for all things loose and layerable has influenced him too. Or perhaps he was overruled by the suffocatingly unimaginative designers at GAP? At least these smocks and shirtdresses will look good with tights and killer boots.

Besides the two slightly tailored pieces below (I like Luca's belted waist, and Kim's cap sleeves) and Kim's shirtdress in the above picture, I'm not terribly impressed with the Roland for GAP collection. I do however like the shoes...

Speaking of collaborations, Proenza Schouler has a new Go International Line with Target that I'd much prefer over this one.

The pieces look so versatile for layering. Very functional and appropriate for the colder months.

The shoes are YSL and i must agree that GAP must have overruled and suffocated his great creativity.

Military clothes are chilling as a rule, but the Kossacks of Czarist Russia have receeded so far in the past that the only remaining image of these tunics is evoked by the Nutcracker...this is Christmas now.

[Note: the Gap has had a bad rap for workplace ethics. I don't know where all this stands now. Fashion is fun; social and economic injustice is not.]
